Heroes Season 2 Done, Now What

Saving the world, one season at a time I just finished Heroes Season 2, which was totally epic (much more intense than Season 1, or maybe just because I’ve forgotten most of Season 1, dunno). Nnow I have to get my hands on Season 3 aka Villains as soon as it’s out. From the promo stuff it looks like Prison Break with super powers, minus Wenty. I won’t spoil Season 2 as it’s still showing on SABC 3, but what … Read More »

I’m Loving… Lipstick Jungle

At least one good reason to stay on my couch on Mondays, Lipstick Jungle is totally cooler than Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives combined. When I was a young and impressionable student, slugging my way through part-time studies while working as a lowly PR Assistant, all I ever wanted to be was high powered and hardcore. I would dress in hot suits, with killer heels and I would have a flashy office (because you know PR Directors are … Read More »

Just go home already

Whatever Last night I was feeling too buggered to do anything more hectic than lie on the couch and watch TV, and since the only other thing on was WWE and the Lotto show, I decided to watch Model Millions. As a huge fan of America’s Next Top Model, I was really not impressed by the lameness of this show. If they had to take out the model rant bits which run every minute or so, it would be over … Read More »

Current Addiction: Robot Chicken

Right from the very first episode I watched (which was the classic Star Wars one) I was totally hooked on Robot Chicken, so when a friend of mine copied season 1 and 2 for me, I was in crazy toy heaven! Transformers like you’ve never seen them before! Created by mad genius Seth Green, these sketch-motion animations feature toys in the most insane story-lines imaginable. No celeb is safe, and religion, races, genders, sexual orientation, drinking, shagging, violence, crime and … Read More »

I’m Loving… Ben Okri

Magic realist or animist realist.. that is the question When I was at my sister’s on Saturday, I managed to raid her library and borrow one my favourite books, Songs of Enchantment by brilliant Nigerian poet and novelist Ben Okri. Some call it magic realism, others say it’s animistic realism, but whatever you call it, Songs of Enchantment is an incredibly written story that blurs reality with the dream world. Songs of Enchantment is a follow-up to Okri’s 1991 Booker … Read More »

Mary, Mary Mary…

I’ve been a Mary J Blige fan for many, many years and love her music. Sadly, I can’t say the same about her dress-sense… Her newish song ‘Stay Down’ is really an awesome track – beautiful lyrics, typical Mary vocals… and loads of dead animals as jackets, hoods, coats, gloves and anything else possible. Talk about overkill! I know it’s a snow scape video, but still. Girlfriend needs to get with the program and realise that the only thing that … Read More »

Extreme Survivor: Junior Edition

Once I got the Survivor soundtrack out of my head, and stopped expecting the characters to have their private rants at the camera, I really got into Lord of the Flies. Like most movies, the book was much better, but overall it was a pretty scary and well made version. I only had a few comments really, such as… 1. Piggy totally had it coming to him, he was pretty bossy and whiny 2. It would have been a totally … Read More »

Hottest Robot Ever

Special Agent Utah, too cool for school I’ve always had a thing for robotic Keanu, ever since Point Break (which I must have watched close to 20 times in my formative years), so when I saw that it was on ETV last night, I was pretty thrilled. This movie can be watched over and over again, without ever getting old. The lines are classic, the characters are hilarious, the fight scenes are epic and Keanu as Johnny Utah is just … Read More »

Kafka on the Shore: Spellbinding!

A teenage runaway with an Oedipal curse, an old man who talks to cats, a hip young truck driver, a transgendered librarian, a cat-killer called Johnnie Walker and a pimp called Colonel Sanders… these are just some of the hectic characters who appear in Murakami’s incredibly mesmerizing book, Kafka on the Shore. This is the fifth Murakami I’ve read, and so far this is one of my favourites. It never fails to amaze me how he manages to write such … Read More »

I’m Loving… Evolver – Pretty Thing

Other than the LHC, the thing that’s made me smile this week amidst all the kak has been Evolver’s new song with The Koek. Awesome song, awesome band, and totally super awesome video – love it!
