Uber Prison Break

‘I can haz freedom?’ Well, what do you know – Etv managed to deliver the goods last night, and showed a seriously good B-grade called Midnight Express. This little 1978 gem is based on the true story of Billy Hayes, who was arrested in Turkey when trying to smuggle hash out of the country back to the states. He is initially only meant to serve 4 years and a bit, but then his sentence is changed to life. The movie … Read More »

Ray Bradbury – The Silver Locusts

I’m busy reading the Ray Bradbury classic The Silver Locusts, which tells the tale of man’s first voyages to Mars. As anyone who has read any Ray Bradbury will know, his books give science fiction an entirely new dimension. His beautiful writing style gives a huge emotive quality to his tales, and even for those who aren’t that into science fiction are able to enjoy his writing. It’s a fairly well-known fact that Stephen King is a huge Bradbury fan, … Read More »

Award Winning But Stupid

This Sasol ad freaks me out bigtime. Not only is that puppet seriously creepy and sinister, the horror movie music adds an extra dose of macabre. It may have picked up a few awards, but I still don’t see what the hell it has to do with petrol. Ads these days are starting to annoy me overall, it’s all about abstract and such a huge number either don’t fit with the product or just try too hard. I won’t even … Read More »

I’m Loving… Seal – Change is Gonna Come

Man I get goose bumps when I hear this song… it’s an anthem, and a beautiful one made even more beautiful by Seal’s epic voice. Awesome stuff indeed!

KFC 0 | Chicken Licken 1

I had a good laugh at the little ad drama that’s been unfolding recently over a Chicken Licken ad which pissed KFC off enough to take them to the ASA… where they then lost the case. The ad features a Colonel’s son, whose daddy needs a wake up call. The team head off in their kitsch chicken mobile, and the Colonel pronounces the chicken the best around, saying “This here chicken is the tastiest in the land. You won’t just … Read More »

I’m Loving… The Apprentice

“You’re fired for shizzle homey!” After the total disappointment that was the end of Survivor, The Apprentice was just what we needed to remind us how much fun reality TV can be. I totally love this show – watching the retards in each team ruin the challenges, laughing at the ridiculous events that these people actually think will get them somewhere, The Donald and his comb-over, the theme song… but most of all, I love the way Trump messes with … Read More »

This should have a ‘Tissue’ rating

I am a bit of a Nicholas Evans fan, and have read quite a few of his books. The Horse Whisperer is one of the few instances where the movie is actually better, thanks to Robert Redford’s unbelievable directing and the beautiful filming. For those who haven’t seen it, Horse Whisperer tells the story of a young girl and her horse who are in a horrific accident. Both are left in a pretty bad way, and as a final desperate … Read More »

Finally, something worth watching

The Brothers Winchester, hot as ever… Well well, what do you know. Just when I was about to give up on TV, Supernatural returns to our screens. With not one, but two totally adorable ghost busters, I can honestly say that this show hardly needs much of a plot to keep me watching, but the storyline is actually also pretty good. These dudes should be cast in everything, that would make me enjoy TV again.

Kickboxer: A Timeless Classic

Awesome I managed to stay awake to watch Kickboxer last night, which is possibly one of my favourite marital arts movies of all time. There are so many things that make this movie awesome, from Van Damme’s outfits to the training scenes, and of course the Muaythai fight scenes. But what makes this movie epic is the dance scene, where Van Damme busts his moves in a very gay racer back vest and naff 80′s pants which sit around his … Read More »

Survivor: Whatever

The best part of the whole darn show You know, I’m beginning to feel like almost every TV show I watch lately is either tainted, or I’m getting so over TV in general. Last night was the Survivor finale, and while my favourite dude had already been voted out a couple weeks back, I had fairly high hopes on the last decent player, Yau Man, at least winning this thing. Not so. Thanks to backstabbing players who’re ‘playing the game’ … Read More »
