5 Reasons Why I Love Lost

5 Reasons Why I Love Lost

So I finally started watching Lost last weekend – yes, I know it’s finished forever, but it’s all new to me. I’ve just started season 3, and am quite hooked. I may even love it more than True Blood (and that is saying a lot). Now that I’ve gotten into the series, I thought I would share some of the reasons why I love the show so very much… What are your favourite things about Lost?

Latest Addiction: Entourage

Latest Addiction: Entourage

So I’ve recently jumped onto the Entourage wagon, and am amazed that it took me this long to start watching! It took me all of a few minutes into the first episode of season 1 to become well and truly hooked – everything about it, from the hilarious dialogue, brilliant storylines, celeb appearances and kick-ass soundtrack, all the way through to gorgeous Vincent, sweet Eric, neurotic Johnny Drama, stoner Turtle and of course, the beyond legendary Ari Gold. Adrian Grenier … Read More »

Cool as Ice and the birth of my B Grade obsession

Cool as Ice and the birth of my B Grade obsession

You might not know this, but there is a fine art to B grade. It is a genre in itself almost, and it takes a lot for movies to qualify for proper B grade status. Movies that try too hard to be bad, or horrors that try to be funny just never hit the mark, while movies and horrors that are too good also don’t quite get it right. To be well and truly within the realms of really bad … Read More »

Twin Peaks Revival

Yesterday evening something amazing happened. The lovely 302 came past to make my month with a series top-up, and even more importantly he brought over his Twin Peaks Complete Series box set. Also, some outstanding wasabi peas, but that is besides the point. To say that I was excited to get Twin Peaks is an understatement… I actually started clapping when the intro started (once we’d gotten past Log Lady). Despite the fact that it’s been almost 20 years since … Read More »

Favourite series of 2010

Before I got my external hard drive, I had to rely on SABC and ETV. While every now and then these channels have given us fairly decent viewing, it was never quite enough. Then I got my HD and my series slumming began in earnest. Here are some of my favourite series from this year: From the very episode of season 1, and those first few minutes of a dark road illuminated by car headlights, I was hooked. Believe me, … Read More »

From hot vamps to hot gladiators

So I really was starting to feel quite desolate at having to wait for the return of True Blood, until I finally got around to watching Spartacus. This gem has been sitting on my HD for a good few months, and if I had known what sort of awesomeness lay ahead, I would never have waited this long to watch! Spartacus is one of those ‘historical’ type series, focusing on the ancient Thracian hero to the slaves and gladiators. If … Read More »

The REAL top 10 list of most violent movies

*Warning: this post may contain spoilers – avoid if you plan to watch any horrors I recommend!* I was quite outraged to come across this Time List of top 10 Most Violent Movies, only to see that they rated 300 and *gasp* Passion of the Christ, ack and even Hostel (!!!) but they didn’t even mention A Serbian Film or Martyrs (or Dead Snow come to think of it). In fact, on closer inspection, I had to wonder if Time … Read More »

I have officially seen it all

In my years of horror appreciation, I’ve seen a lot. I’ve seen lame over-rated horrors (or torture porn, whatever you want to call it), cheesy hilarious B-grade horrors, shock appeal horrors, classic horrors, kak scary horrors, non-scary horrors, foreign horrors, American mainstream horrors and just about every other type of horror out there. None of them have come close to the movies I recently watched however. Not even remotely close! Horror #1 was Martyrs, a French new wave horror by … Read More »

In which I admit my addiction to vampire shows…

Ok, I admit it – lame as I initially thought Vampire Diaries to be, I have managed to get myself totally into that shiz. And much as I blame the hot vampire Damon (aka Ian Somerhalder) for that, it has quite a cool plot too. Also, I have True Blood 1 and 2 ready and waiting for when I finish Vampire Diaries. I draw the line at Twilight, but still. It’s bad. That said, if you haven’t seen Vampire Diaries … Read More »

A Serbian Film

When everyone (including seasoned horror critics reviewing the film) tells you not to watch something, and reviews include descriptions like ‘rape of the soul’, you know it’s a) going to be hectic and b) something you have to watch, despite the warnings. A Serbian Film is one such movie. Directed by Srdjan Spasojevic, this avant garde horror makes all the Saw and Hostel type of American torture porn flicks look like Disney – it really is that insane. Some are … Read More »
