#SWC – Feel it, it is HERE!

Today I joined thousands of fellow South Africans in a Vuvuzela Moment at noon. To say that it was an emotionally charged experience is an understatement – I was close to tears as I saw bergies, office workers, restaurant staff, car guards, etv crew and every other Kloof Street local (I swear I even saw a Kloof Street Druggie!) unite to blow our vuvezelas, wave our flags, hoot our horns and smile like complete maniacs. I felt so damn proud … Read More »

World Cup 2010: The Ladies Guide to Soccer

So, the World Cup is just days away, and I don’t know about y’all, but I am so darn excited I can hardly wait! It’s going to mad, it’s going to be huge, and most of all, it’s going to be our chance to shine! I am quite a soccer fan, and compared to almost all other sports, soccer is one of the few games that I can watch on my own easily. I love the game for many reasons… … Read More »

How To Identify Cape Town’s Bergies – World Cup Guide

In light of the World Cup, which is just 14 days away, I thought this would be as good a time as any to share the unofficial bergie rating system as classified by my co-worker and work BFF Dunnyone. Level 1: starter bergie Level 2: robot bergies Level 3: cagaads (must be drunk) Level 4: bin bergies, drunk Level 5: drunk, with plastic bag shoes/no shoes Level 6: drunk, with trolley and a friend, and legs Level 7: drunk, with … Read More »

Just another day in the City Bowl…

Phew, what a week – hard to believe that tomorrow is Thursday already! It’s been a bit manic lately, feels like I never have enough time in the day and thing are just a little crazy. The City Bowl, is still the same old place… some things never change! Today at lunch I ran into Blade, then got a glimpse of Ninja and his chick aka Die Antwoord crew. Have to love Kloof Street! P.S. Judging by the increase in … Read More »

Living in a fishbowl

After reading Brazen’s account of the maggots, I was inspired to do a round up of all the disgusting, weird, bizare and just plain wtf things I’ve seen around this city in the few years I’ve been living in these ghettos. Some are disturbing, others are amusing, some are even quite cool. Sadly, I don’t always have a camera present (this will chance when I get my Blackberry next month, yay) so I lack photos to back up the weird … Read More »

Drive by fish sellers the new KSD

Not even half as fresh as this The City Bowl seems to on to something new lately, with less KSD’s and more drive by fish sellers to annoy you on Kloof Street and surrounds. While I can’t say I miss the KSD’s (and besides this, they have not entirely gone) the fish dudes are even more annoying – cruising the streets in dodgy bakkies, they’re like the seafood version of the Long Street drug dealers, except in their case they … Read More »

Kings & Kweens

I can’t help it, this PSA for Childline makes me get a bit choked up every time, without fail! I don’t know if it’s the toys, the theme song by Skwatta Kamp or the simplicity of the message behind it, but the whole Kings & Kweens campaign is brilliant. Childline as a service is pretty crucial, and with studies showing that abused children are four times more likely to become abusers themselves not to mention the showing statistics that show … Read More »

2010: This is it!

Just a few more months to go… It seemed like it would never get here, but at last 2010 is upon us. I am feeling so optimistic and excited about the year ahead it’s insane, and with so much to look forward to, it just HAS to be a good one! After a good few days away in Piketberg, high up on the mountains away from everything; relaxing, eating, napping, reading, missioning through forests, swimming in gorgeous jacaranda-filled pools, and … Read More »

The wheels on the bike go round and round…

There’s an awesome new meme going around, about bicycles… find out more over at Guy McLaren, but the aim of the game is to share our earliest memories of pedal power. I was tagged by ExMi on this, who I was somewhat relieved to read shares my lack of cycling ability – I thought I was one of the only people who can’t ride a bike, phew. Anyway, so. My earliest bike memories… I had a pink girl version of … Read More »

High Time I Took a S’hot Left

I’ve been working on a really great project lately, which is basically travel guides for Cape Town. Having been born and raised here, I know in theory about all the amazing things to see and do, but you think I have experienced most of them? Please, half of Cape Town don’t see much of their own city. Sure I’ve done the wine route a few times, and I went up the cable car, even if it was in Sub A. … Read More »
