Things

October is finally almost over, and so is the big deadline that has been looming over me this past month or two. I can’t quite believe that it’s almost the end of the year, and after a supremely challenging month (read: stressful beyond belief!), I’m very excited to begin a brand new month of calm, balance and contentment. It’s time for some positive change all round, can’t wait! Here are my favourite things from October that helped get me through … Read More »

Santa Shoebox Drop-Off: Cape Town

On Friday my mom and I went to drop off our shoeboxes for the Santa Shoebox project. Having had loads of fun getting all the goodies for my box, I was excited to see how the drop-off would go, and as it happens, I was totally unprepared for what I saw… The entire church hall was FULL of boxes, with helpers frantically dashing around checking boxes, doing the final wrapping and packing them into huge storage boxes. It was like … Read More »

Mush a ring dum a doo dum a da

[Click to Open in New Window] It’s Friday, the sun is out and while it’s been another pretty hectic week, it’s the end of the month and soon the end of some epic deadlines that have been weighing over me. I have chocolate, vanilla chai and pretty plum nails, I’ve just done my monthly invoices and I slept right through the night to wake up feeling more like my old self than I have in a while. All in all, … Read More »

Crocodile on the muthaf**ng plane!

It’s been a chaotic and stressful day in a week of same, but one thing that did offer some sort of distraction very early this morning was reading about the crocodile that escaped on a plane in the DRC. As anyone who’s seen Snakes on a Plane knows, reptiles and airplanes are not the best combination, especially with said reptiles are running amok on said planes that are airborne at the time. Needless to say, great havoc ensured, resulting in … Read More »

Gavin Rossdale does Landslide

[Click to Open in New Window] Wow… this is… interesting. Gavin Rossdale is a god, and there is no doubt about that. Landslide however was done by the utterly incomparable Stevie Nicks, who wrote the song about her father. Stevie Nicks managed to project everything into that song, and no one is able to get that range raw emotion – not even Gavin! Also, the guitarist is certainly no Lindsay Buckingham… only Fleetwood Mac can get it 100%. Nevertheless, it’s … Read More »

Even cowgirls get the blues

I believe in nothing, everything is sacred. I believe in everything, nothing is sacred. ~ Tom Robbins, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues It’s been a bit of a bumpy start to the week, and I’m at the point where I just can’t even try to focus anymore. All I feel up to doing is hiding away on my couch with a chilled glass of Chenin Blanc, some chocolate and some Spartacus, or maybe The Little Mermaid (aka my comfort movie … Read More »

Zorro needs a miracle – please take a moment to read!

UPDATE: via Chris M – Happy to report that African Tails have reported that they have found a family for Zorro! One of the most heartbreaking things about abandoned, abused and neglected shelter dogs is having to endure the chance at a happy life, only to be rejected by their foster family and be sent back to the shelter. Dogs especially are loyal and extremely loving companion animals, and form strong bonds with their owners – this is what makes … Read More »

#MusicMonday: Patron Tequila

Now isn’t that just a crying shame – someone finally does a song about Patron, and their record company goes and cancels their group! It’s tragic… while Paradiso Girls aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, they are certainly WAY more than those pesky Puddy Tat Dolls could ever have managed to be in terms of actual talent. This song is like a Friday night anthem for Long Street, and, come to think of it, for Tequila Club too, hehehe. Please enjoy … Read More »

From hot vamps to hot gladiators

So I really was starting to feel quite desolate at having to wait for the return of True Blood, until I finally got around to watching Spartacus. This gem has been sitting on my HD for a good few months, and if I had known what sort of awesomeness lay ahead, I would never have waited this long to watch! Spartacus is one of those ‘historical’ type series, focusing on the ancient Thracian hero to the slaves and gladiators. If … Read More »

World Food Day – how to get involved

Today is World Food Day, and with millions of children growing up hungry, the theme this year is United Against Hunger. There are an estimated one billion people starving in our world, which just seems completely wrong and crazy – food is something that most of us take for granted, wasting, over-eating and being picky eaters for veggies we don’t like. This World Food Day, stop for a minute and think about what you eat, and how you can help … Read More »
