#MusicMonday: Bittersweet

Because it’s Monday Mope Music time here tonight, I couldn’t resist sharing this gem. The band is called Within Temptation and they’re like an uber emo Efervessance (Evernessance, whatever that silly warbling band is called) but with a better vocalist. Yes, this is a home-made music video montage for Legends of the Fall – don’t judge, it was a brilliant damn movie and one of my all time favourites. I don’t know the lyrics, just turn it up and listen … Read More »

#MusicMonday: Letting the Cables Sleep

I’ve been a Bush fan since I was about 16, and on a rather mehish Monday, Letting the Cables Sleep seems like the perfect moody, introspective mope song. The video is awesome too… dark, deep and intense. Also, we get to see Gavin Rossdale’s abs. Aweh. Bush – Letting the Cables Sleep You in the dark You in the pain You on the run Living a hell Living your ghost Living your end Never seem to get in the place … Read More »

That’s just the way it is

It’s been a Tupac kind of evening, where he just makes so much sense. June is almost over, and it feels like everything has turned topsy turvy this month… from all the epic excitement of the World Cup to too much sad news and so much gloom on top of the heady feeling of hope, celebration and enthusiasm. Bitter sweet stuff indeed. I have been meaning to write about the BP spill, but it is just too heartbreaking and too … Read More »

Jasper

It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned Jasper or posted any pictures of him, and at the rate he’s growing, figured now was a good time – before he goes for the chop next month, hehe. Jasper is the first cat that I have had on my own, from a small kitten. Sonic and Tiger were first living with my sister, and we only moved in together when they were a few months old already so I missed a large … Read More »

Aah Bafana….

There’s a slideshow being emailed around, about how just because we’re out of the World Cup, we can’t just stop the gees. Yesterday’s game was one of the most amazing things ever, and I don’t there that there was a single South African out there who was not bursting with pride at how well our boys played. At the end of the day, it’s about the HEART and about us making it that far and beating France. A draw, a … Read More »

Mehday Overload!

I can’t stop rubbing my eyes like a child, my brainz hurt and my throat is closing up… and I had one of the most surreal experiences like, ever this evening. To say that today has been a Mehday is an understatement – after a weekend spent in bed, mostly asleep, today was never going to be easy. But brainstorming sessions, manic work and too much to try and get through aside, I survived. Then this evening I went through … Read More »

These are a few of my favourite things (the winter edition)

While the tourists seem to think it’s high summer, and are walking around the city with tiny shorts and tee-shirts (and those are just the guys!), the rest of us are freezing our asses off in Cape Town lately. The sun is shining, but there is snow on the mountain and as temperatures drop below 10 degrees, the layers come on and the comfort seeking begins in earnest. Right now, my favourite things involve self-indulgence and small comforts – with … Read More »

Waka Waka!

I seem to be constantly humming the K’naan Waving Flag song (that or Waka Waka), and I have a date with an American who fell on my foot on Saturday – yup, World Cup feVAH is here my friends, and I for one am loving it! Friday saw the kick off of the SWC, and with no work done all day (not to mention an hour long power cut on Kloof Street) we finally got out at 1pm. Holly met … Read More »

SWC: Ladies Guide to Bafana Bafana

So Mexico is kinda lacking when it comes to hot players – this is good news, as it leaves us to focus on our boys instead! You might be thinking that Bafana has Matthew Booth and that’s about it… but there are a few hotties worth watching on Friday… Lance Davids – #7 Look at that gorgeous face – he is just adorable! Lance plays midfield, and wears the #7 top. At 25 he’s just a baby, but having been … Read More »

#SWC – Feel it, it is HERE!

Today I joined thousands of fellow South Africans in a Vuvuzela Moment at noon. To say that it was an emotionally charged experience is an understatement – I was close to tears as I saw bergies, office workers, restaurant staff, car guards, etv crew and every other Kloof Street local (I swear I even saw a Kloof Street Druggie!) unite to blow our vuvezelas, wave our flags, hoot our horns and smile like complete maniacs. I felt so damn proud … Read More »
