How To Identify Cape Town’s Bergies – World Cup Guide

In light of the World Cup, which is just 14 days away, I thought this would be as good a time as any to share the unofficial bergie rating system as classified by my co-worker and work BFF Dunnyone. Level 1: starter bergie Level 2: robot bergies Level 3: cagaads (must be drunk) Level 4: bin bergies, drunk Level 5: drunk, with plastic bag shoes/no shoes Level 6: drunk, with trolley and a friend, and legs Level 7: drunk, with … Read More »

Just another day in the City Bowl…

Phew, what a week – hard to believe that tomorrow is Thursday already! It’s been a bit manic lately, feels like I never have enough time in the day and thing are just a little crazy. The City Bowl, is still the same old place… some things never change! Today at lunch I ran into Blade, then got a glimpse of Ninja and his chick aka Die Antwoord crew. Have to love Kloof Street! P.S. Judging by the increase in … Read More »

Reasons to Feel Good

As if the impending weekend wasn’t good enough, we’ve also been having the most divine weather in Cape Town today – this alone has given me plenty to smile about today. In addition to the awesome weather and overall Thursdayness, few other things have been great today… * Espresso! Seriously, I never used to be into them, so not sure why I am getting so excited about them now, but drinking them the company way, with sugar for an added … Read More »

Stairway to Heaven

Of all my memories of this song (and there are plenty), the one that stands out the most is being in the car with my cousin and a few friends, on route to an outdoor party in Scarborough. Driving through Noordhoek and Sun Valley, with Led Zeppelin blasting all the way, enjoying everything that was awesome about being 15… cute clothes, friends, giggles. Sadly, it also meant strict curfews. We didn’t like curfews much, and were used to the safety … Read More »

The real value of social media

It’s amazing how the interwebs have changed, and how the have shaped our lives in so many ways. Tonight Justin Hartman’s heartbreaking tweet as he said goodbye to his father who is being taken by cancer brought home the real value of social media – just like Chris’ post on iMod for Cath as she sees her mom also fight a losing battle. Earlier this week we helped @Riven16 decide what to wear with her lovely new dress, and @al_ice … Read More »

Gossip Girl Hotties

I might be a few seasons behind (although that will change soon), but better late than never right? Gossip Girl has fast become one of my favourite shows, and while it’s not exactly intellectual or even remotely thought-provoking, I can’t get enough of the drama, beautiful outfits, bitchiness and overall fabulousness(ness) of these spoiled rich brats from Manhattan’s upper East Side. Girl crush on Serena aka Blake Lively (and teeny on one Blair aka Leighton Meister) aside, the three main … Read More »

Attack of the MEHdays

Today was a bit of a write-off, not even sure what made it sucky – it just wasn’t the best of days. Lately I have been super groggy in the mornings, and it’s not unusual for me to get to work realising my top is inside out, or for me to walk into things while trying to do ten things at once. Today I managed to bash my elbow into the metal lock bit on my cupboard, so now have … Read More »

Cigars, massages, violent kittens

Phew, can’t believe yet another weekend has come and gone – before we know it, May will be over already! This past one has been really great, a perfect combination of party time, me time, down time and work time – resulting in a very relaxed and rested Rox, ready to kick off another week. Friday night was pretty epic, DT fetched me around 11h30ish or so and we headed to Neighbourhood for Patron. We had a huge giggle at … Read More »

Happiness is…

My co-worker AB is doing a really cool thing on her blog, and has gotten her friends to send their Happy Lists (mine is over here). I was so inspired by the idea, and it’s been so awesome seeing the various lists and also seeing how each one of us sees happiness as a concept. Mostly, happiness is found in such simple things – for such complex creatures, it is so amazing how we are able to take pleasure in … Read More »

Balancing acts

I’m not sure what’s changed exactly. I am still working full-time and freelancing on the side. I am still trying to juggle work, friends, family and me time. I am still prone to the odd stressed out day even. And yet, somehow this month things feel easier, and I’m not only staying on top of my game, I’m also managing to fit Muaythai and more fun into my schedule. On that Life’s a Journey show on SABC3 on Wednesday they … Read More »
