If I had a band, I would probably go for the trip hop, alternative new wave vibe. Like Nouvelle Vague, but with break-beats, scratching and a morbid Portishead twang. I would wear slinky dresses, with my hair all 20’s and lots of dark eye makeup. I’d have a bassist and a guitarist, a drummer, a DJ and maybe a sax player. We would be awesome, yet cheesy and people wouldn’t know whether to love us, or hate us.
We would play all the good stuff, like Johnny Winter, Dusty Springfield, Foreigner, Velvet Underground, Patsy Cline, Janis Joplin, Leonard Cohen, The Cure, Nina Simone, Led Zeppelin, Gavin Rossdale, Carly Simon, Stevie Nicks and Bruce Springsteen. I would sing and sway and play my harmonica during the bluesy bits, and I would look melancholic and untouchable and vixenish.
We would play at obscure venues, possibly even Zula or at hotel bars in the early hours. We would be mysterious, yet never quite famous and people may even remember us sometimes. It would be fabulous and ridiculous, and whatever you wanted it to be.
It would be the type of band our parents would never understand, and it would be just as we once hoped it would be. All that and a bag of chips, actually.
I must say, your music taste fascinates me
I was raised on blues rock, and somehow picked up my love for alternative, cheese and weird shiz along the way.
At least my happy house phase is pretty much over, haha.
My house was filled with the metal (of it’s day) and over recent years my tastes have just expanded. I’m always open to new sounds…
I prefer old stuff, and some new stuff… guess eclectic is a nice way of describing my taste in music.
You should try some of the following:
* Lark (local band, SUPER brilliant and impossible to define)
* Nouvelle Vague (French new wave, they cover alternative classics)
* Dirty Skirts (another hot local band)
In other news, is this day over yet? Cos it feels like it ought to be, sheesh.
What I listen to on any given day depends on my mood and what’s happening, but generally it’s more heavy and a little bit old-school. Stuff like Tool, Filter, GnR, etc. I really liked Lark btw.
My day’s not going too badly, must be the sleep top-up I had. Not being terribly productive however…
GnR = one of my favourites, also old stuff like AC-DC, KISS, Sisters of Mercy, NIN and Nirvana.
Oh and I also have a bit of thing for Ice T, Body Count especially. And Beastie Boys, RATM, Tupac, Prophets of the City, Public Enemy… it’s actually a bit crazy, I will pretty much listen to anything.
My day has been pretty arb, I have wasabi peanuts now though, so it’s getting better.
And again you mention these wasabi peanuts… I’m cautiously curious!
I guess I’d also listen to just about anything, or give it a chance at least. If I like it, it stays. Pretty much my motto for life as well.
Wasabi peanuts are awesome, I mention them a lot because I am utterly addicted.
And agreed on the motto – good approach indeedio!
