Not-so-terrific Tuesday

February 23rd, 2010

hot & wet (and not a bath)

There are very few instances that hot and wet go well together. Baths, wet t-shirts, saunas and hot springs are about as many that are polite to mention. Humidity and this horrible tropical cyclone vibe we have going on in Cape Town today is not ayoba however. Not least because of the effect it has on my hair.

I missed breakfast and was feeling too tired and ickey (ok lazy, whatever) to go out at lunch. Instead I survived on apples and coffee. Minor irritations all day, being hit by this oppressive weather every time I ventured out of the cool, air-conditioned office, headaches, irritable co-workers and debated on g-talk about the state of Africa (and colonialism’s effect thereof) added to the fun vibe in the office. Finally, after planning to end off this day with a nice cold glass of white wine and perhaps some junk food, I got to the till at Woolies only to realise my bank card was in my other bag, and I had no cash.

Mehness indeed. Still, after getting some food into my tummy and downing a few glasses of ice water, I’m starting to revive. At this very moment, I don’t have work tonight. This may change of course, but right now I can relax and unwind and maybe make a pot of green tea. I didn’t need wine really anyway, and I certainly didn’t need those Lays Sweet Chili, no matter what I might have been thinking when I spotted them in the aisle. Calorie fest averted, thanks to my forgetfulness! ;-)

Well, you can’t win them all, right and tomorrow is another day. Am cautiously optimistic that it will be a better one. At the very least, it’s one step closer to the weekend. That has to count for something right?

The heat in Cape Town is making it unbearable. Add to that the fact that I work in an office with no air con and you can just imagine how much cold ice water I’m consuming in a day. I still wouldn’t give up living in Cape town for anything in the world though, especially with how majestic table Mountain looked yesterday with the layer of clouds moving over it.

Ever so cooler today, and at least no rain and humidity! Agreed that it’s totally worth it though, heatwaves and alles. ;-)

P.S. You know about the blogger bash tomorrow hey? Mail me for info if you’re keen, would be nice to have you there!
