Happy Birthday Kyle MacLachlan

Twin Peaks: the good years

When I was like eleven or twelve, Twin Peaks and Cop Dale Cooper were quite honestly the coolest thing since Benetton Barbie. My cousin and I were complete addicts, and our idea of the perfect man back in those prepubescent days was Kyle MacLachlan and hot cops in general.

Showgirls: the bad decision

Sure he bombed in Showgirls, but he bombed in a cool, spectacularly bad way. The remote light up palm trees and swimming pool scene will always go down as the most hilarious and awful love scene ever, that has to count for something right?

Desperate Housewives: the return to tv

Then came Desperate Housewives, and we got to see Kyle on television again, this time as creepy but suave Orson Hodge, the man who managed to win Bree over. And maybe kill off a few people, but that aside, he wasn’t that bad really.

I honestly don’t know if there was much else in between Show Girls and Desperate Housewives, and to be quite frank I don’t really think it matters much. Those three roles will always be what I remember, and today on his 51st birthday, those are the roles I want to remember.

It never really did get much better than Twin Peaks though. Sad but true.

You know I actually love the movie Showgirls, have watched it quite a few times, I love the part where Naomi kicks the rapist-singer’s ass.

Don’t forget Kyle was also in Sex and the City as Trey.

  2. Roxilla says:

Hahaha, I actually loved it too – especially the light up palm trees!

I am a bit embarressed to admit that I haven’t watched a huge deal of SATC (mostly cos of never having satelite and/or mnet)… was he a good guy or a bad guy?

  3. Chantal says:

OMG you must be the only female (in the western world) who isn’t a SATC fan. lol he was a good guy I guess, he married Charlotte. You have to watch all the episodes sometime, from the beginning, it was an awesome series.

I’m dying to get Twin Peaks on DVD as I missed out on that one, I was quite young when it came on TV.

  4. Rox says:

I am very uncool like that, miss all the good stuff! ;-)

I did however watch a lot of Twin Peaks, want to get hold of the DVD for all series though – it’s a darn good show from what I remember!

And you know, think I need to watch Showgirls again too, hehe.

  5. Terrance says:

Being the huge David lynch fan that I am I saw Kyle in Dune, Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks. I think the less said about his role in Showgirls, the better ;)

Rox if you’re interested in a cool Twin Peaks boxset, this is the one I ended up getting: http://tr.im/PyW3

  6. Rox says:

Oh ye, how could I have forgotten Blue Velvet!! That was an awesome movie.

And ta for the link, definitely on my bday wish list for this year, hehe.
