… is tres cute.
I watched Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights last night (being in my current hermit phase til recovery and/or payday) and I adored every minute of this fabulous movie.
The Swayze is even in it, as a dance instructor and the dancing is pretty spectacular, as is the acting. Set in sultry pre-revolution Cuba in the 50′s, the theme is one we know well – young, naive girl meets poor, inappropriate boy, coming of age, emerging sensuality type of thing, but it’s the music and moves and backdrop that makes this one so special.
Diego Luna plays Javier, a young Cuban dude, while the gorgeous Romola Garai plays Katy, an American good girl type recently moved to Cuba. They end up partnering in a dance contest and combine her ballroom skills with his Cuban moves for a sizzling style of their own. I lack the coordination to dance properly, so salsa is something I can admire from afar, the moves in this movie are quite fantastic though – some serious choreography, and considering that these two were actors, it’s even more impressive.
Some may argue that it’s fluff, and that the music doesn’t fit the time or that you can never beat the original. I don’t know though, personally I thought this was almost *better* than the original, it’s Dirty Dancing with an injection of hot, vibrant energy – and the soundtrack is sizzling with Afro-Latin beats, totally makes this movie rock. Adored every minute of it!

Dirty Dancing ftw!!!
Oh no sis man I don’t see the cuteness!
I dunno, he’s just got some sort of quirky charm about him – you must see the movie!
I guess I can’t judge till i’ve seen it!
Indeed.
He’s no Freddie Ljunberg of course, but I still think he’s kinda cute.
