Surprise package from an old friend in Australia

After finding two notifications to collect something at the post office last weekend when I got back from Piketberg, I have been super curious to find out what had been sent, and who had sent it. This past week was manic, so only got a chance to go to the post office this morning… it was totally worth the wait!

A friend of mine who lives in Australia sent me a lovely Christmas card, a hand-written letter and the most gorgeous pink dolphin brooch (she looked for sharks, but dolphin was the next best thing, hehe).

Pink dolphin brooch (bit blurry but you get the idea)

This made my week for a number of reasons, most of all it came at just the right time – I’ve had a bad case of the blues this week, and what with all this back pain, going back to work, being broke and developing a bit of a summer cold, it just hasn’t been all that fun. Getting such a nice surprise was just the boost I needed!

Also, it made me realise how sad it is that we don’t write letters as much anymore. Emails and sms’ are quicker and easier, and as we progress technologically we tend to lose a bit of that personal thought that goes into writing a letter, mailing it and then for the person receiving it, the fun of getting a surprise in the post. It’s also way nicer having a proper Christmas card to put up, rather than yet another e-card (even if e-cards are better for the environment). I don’t know, I was just chuffed to get this package – was totally worth the wait!

When was the last time you received a hand-written letter?

Awww sweet! thanks for keeping to your word and letting me know :) it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside when someone has made that effort hey, and a hand written letter is pretty awesome, shew I cant remember the last time I received one, probably 15 or more years ago from my cousin.

Question: what do you drink the peppermint tea with? sugar? do you add milk, does that go? I also want to try different teas. Green tea tastes crap to me though :/ so I’d like to try peppermint as that must be healthy…

It was the nicest thing, and before that hardly ever got stuff in the mail!

As for tea, I gave up sugar a few years ago and drink it straight up without milk or sugar. I find peppermint tea tastes the best, it’s not as strong as green tea. I used to battle with green tea too, then I tried the green tea and jasmine (the 5 roses one is good) – first with a little bit of honey, then just as is. Try the peppermint one, the one I use is Teekanne but I’m sure most are good!
