Monday Mope Music: It Can’t Rain All The Time

We watched The Crow on Saturday night. Or rather, we got halfway through and fell asleep, and I watched it properly yesterday morning. It’s hard to explain how much I love this movie, it made a very strong impression on me watching it as a teenager going though a hectic time; and to me it has always been more of a love story than anything else. I cried my eyes out at the end back then, and I cried again … Read More »

November Rain

Enough is really enough now. I know we are technically still in spring, and that the plants and reservoirs need it (especially with fire season around the corner) and I know it’s not such a big deal… but I don’t like rain. I don’t like getting wet, I am tired of umbrellas and jeans, and I miss the sun. Half watching Maid in Manhattan (lame!) and enjoying my favourite red, in my cozy flat with pajamas and socks isn’t that … Read More »

My own private library

“Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back. That’s part of what it means to be alive. But inside our heads – at least that’s where I imagine it – there’s a little room where we store those memories. A room like the stacks in this library. And to understand the workings of our own heart we have to keep on making new reference cards. We have to dust things off every once in awhile, let in fresh … Read More »

Things That Make Me Smile

For the first time in weeks I got to enjoy a work-free weekend. The feeling of being able to have a normal weekend has been too awesome, and after sleeping the entire day away today, I am feeling relaxed and happy. Sleep and chillax aside, a few other things have been making me smile lately… * The Garmin GPS advert. The one that follows the wildebeest trek from a wildebeest’s perspective, with the ‘at the giraffe, turn left’ and such… … Read More »

Bad Day Rule #8989: Things Can and Will Get Worse

While I couldn’t tell what kind of day it was going to be when I woke up, the sheer difficulty it took to force myself awake was possibly a mild indication. Going to bed with a headache, I had taken a Syndol which made me sleep like the dead, but even for a morning person like me, it was a bit trickier waking up from my slumber. Piles of work, annoying rewrites, endless proofing, meetings and training sessions, missioning up … Read More »

Abseiling: Pretty Darn Cool Actually

“Don’t look down, don’t look down…” So on Sunday morning, we ventured out to Silvermine for a fun morning shlepping up mountains, abseiling down mountains, hauling ass back up mountain and then missioning down mountain again. It was a perfect day, with just a bit wind towards lunchtime, but otherwise warm with enough cloud to prevent us from collapsing on the hike up. Lots of people had canceled, so we ended up being the only ones doing it – plus … Read More »

Monday Mope Music: One

It’s simple fact that Johnny Cash did covers even better than the original artists. NIN’s Hurt, John Lennon’s In My Life, Tom Petty’s Won’t Back Down and many others are proof of this. But his version of One is something quite spectacular. Taking an angry, sad and bitter song, and turning it into a melancholic, raw and honest one is no mean feat… but time and time again Johnny Cash could swing his own version of any classic, and make … Read More »

A Few Things I Learned This Weekend

Having just come over from Being Brazen, and not feeling too inspired to find my own idea for a post, I decided to do a weekend round up of interesting things discovered… 1. Sleep is important. After a few weeks chasing a deadline and trying to get a whole host of other project done, while still juggling my day job and having some semblance of a social life, I have new respect for a good nights sleep. 2. Abseiling is … Read More »

What a day…

Must… have… coffee… Waking up has been especially hard this week. Not having much of a weekend, and working every night last week tends to have that effect, and as they are wont to do when I am tired, my tonsils have chosen this time to act up. All in all, for the morning person that I am, it makes getting up something of a challenge when you feel so groggy. Like I do every morning, the first thing I … Read More »
