Boxing Day Chillax: Awesome

First, a few thoughts about the above up and coming destruction of yet another one of our childhood classics…

* Jackie Chan, Kung Fu, China… and it’s called Karate Kid
* Jaden or whatever his name is Smith is quite a cute kid actually
* Despite there being so much wrong with this shiz, I still want to see it

Ok, so it’s Boxing Day and I have had about one and a bit day of sheer chillax. Christmas Eve (morning to midnight) was pretty hectic, it was my first day of leave and had an early start with a 10am meeting in town. My sister and I missioned up to Greenmarket area, and I had my meeting, then we met up for coffee just off the Square. Then it was time for our annual expedition into the bowels of Golden Acre, to the Chinese shops. This is a fairly new tradition, and despite the hardcore crowds and somewhat terrifying worry of being mugged, it’s pretty awesome – I got my mom a Heartful Bird (chirms, wiggles, pen holder) and also found a few trinkets here and there for cousins and whatnot. After making our way back via the amazing Church Street Antique Market it was high time for a drink, so we headed to Lola’s for a drink or two and lunch before finally arriving back home.

By this point I was feeling utterly wrecked after a week of very little sleep, far too much work and post-deadline stress, so I had to have a quick nap before our mom fetched us to begin the missions before going on to our family Christmas Eve dinner in the evening. After dropping my Aztec Ice-Cream at my aunts we realised that I had forgotten something at home. So we drove back from Plumstead to town, and back again to my parents’ place in Harfield to wrap presents and prepare the food I was bringing, then finally we were ready to head to my aunts.

A few Savannas, delicious dinner, much laughs at my cousin’s gorgeous not-quite-two year old son who was having loads of fun, present opening (a good haul this year – smoothie maker, perfume, slippers, bath goodies, book, far too much chocolate, jewellery and various other items) and then desert and I was so exhausted I could barely keep my eyes open. We drove home via the infamous lighted up house in Plumstead – in fact the whole area was hilarious, they always go OTT on the Christmas lights, it’s awesome. Finally was home, had a quick look over presents with my sister then I was lights out.

Yesterday we spent most of the day eating left overs, watching a never-ending stream of cheesy Christmas movies on etv, eating cheese and crackers, napping and generally doing as little as possible. My sister then headed off to a friend’s for the night, and I made myself a few tequila sunrises, read some Dean Koontz, watched Monsters Inc. and crashed.

After sleeping badly (yet again, seriously annoying) I finally got up around 8ish his morning. After hauling ass to Spa for supplies (running out of coffee on Christmas morning really sucks, especially if you only realise you don’t have enough after you have filled the water and half-filled the filter!) and some fruit I did some errands, and now I think I will give my smoothie maker its first try. It’s a super slick one, Russell Hobbes Glow – been wanting one for ages, so really amped! Then I think I may have a nap (lord knows I need one) or possibly zone out on the couch with Robot Chicken/Dexter/B-grade horror movie/book. Some balcony chillax is on the cards for later this afternoon and with little wind in town for a change I think that calls for a dress.

Tomorrow I head out to Piketberg, am so darn amped it’s ridiculous. I intend to spend the next few days until the 1st or so doing very little, besides picking fruit, swimming in rivers or water tanks, sitting around, maybe a forest hike or three, spending time with my relocated cats, enjoying fresh tequila sunrises with freshly picked oranges from the orchards and perhaps a few games of cards.

R to the AD I tell ya. :-)

Happy holidays wherever you are, and hope you’re enjoying this break as much as I am!
