A fluffy dose of inspiration…

I came across a blog tonight that made me want to smile and cry at the same time – words cannot describe how moved and inspired I am by this very special cat… who has no face, but oodles of charm, courage and character!

Chase – one of the most inspirational kittehs ever!

Daily Tails of Chase shares the antics of a beautiful, fluffy and fat black and white cat called Chase. This cat is special though, when she was between 3 and 6 weeks old she was hurt in an accident, and a kind passerby brought her in to a vet with her face badly mutilated and her back leg so badly mangled it had to be amputated. The vet nursed the kitten back to health, and numerous attempts to restore the facial damage was done to no avail. The kitten was otherwise healthy though, and as the scar tissue developed, the only thing needed to be done was regular eye drops to keep Chase’s eyes from drying out.

She can eat, sleep and play like any other cat – this blog is an inspiring testament to that. She may not look like other cats, but that doesn’t make her any less cat! If anything, she is MORE special than other cats… plus she ‘works’ as a pet therapist, to show people who’ve survived bad accidents that being different isn’t such a bad thing, and that just because you look different on the outside, it doesn’t make you any less awesome on the inside.

Ah man, this just blows me away in so many ways. As some of you who’ve been reading my blog for a while will know, I have a cat who kicks his face open. Like, really kicks. Sonic has been doing this from a young age, and aside from giving him his pet prozac or putting him on cortizone, there is pretty much bugger all I can do about it. He is a beautiful cat, with huge green eyes… and a massive scab on his face.

I don’t see the scab anymore really, and I don’t even mind when he rubs it against me. He likes to sit on my lap when I’m watching TV, and put his face right up under my chin – so close the scab is almost directly in my face… but it doesn’t gross me out anymore, because he’s my kitteh and I love him.

So I know a little bit about special needs cats, and reading about Chase was just such a revelation – that cat is a huge inspiration for me and for cats like Sonic… and it’s also proof that sometimes, putting hurt pets down isn’t the only solution – if an animal can be saved, and can live a close to normal life, despite disabilities, then it is worth fighting for.

Please visit Chase’s blog and take a look through – it’s a beautiful story, and guaranteed to make you feel those warm and fuzzies, really really amazing indeed!
