The End of May

This time last year I was dealing with epic laptop near-death experiences, and preparing for my final month of full-time work, slowly perfecting my driving skills and causing a fair share of mayhem on Long Street. While sometimes it seems that my life has done a complete turn around, some things haven’t changed much at all… except now my laptop doesn’t actually crash anymore, I have not only my drivers license but my very first car, I’ve done freelancing AND … Read More »

Woza Weekend

The star of the show, as usual… Well, another weekend has come and gone, and this one was actually quite a good one. Friday night saw a few of us local bloggers converge at Neighbourhood (302, BlindCripple, Tristan, Blade, DT and @GrumH – good mix) where much Patron was enjoyed before we made our way across various spots, a few remaining survivors ending up at Saul’s somewhere around 4am. Bar a few crappy moments, it was mostly a lot of … Read More »

Winter Obsessions

As the days get colder and the nights get shorter, the scarves come out and the hibernation increases. Winter is not my favourite time of year, but it’s not all bad. Here are my current winter obsessions keeping me distracted and cozy… 1. Scarves, jerseys and hats Scarves especially are something I can’t do without on cold days – I have an entire drawer full of them, big pashminas, faux fur scarves, silk scarves. I also love soft winter jerseys, … Read More »

I’m Loving… Christian Slater

Vintage Slater… H to the OT Way back in the days of Brad Pitt, Kurt Cobain, Steven Dorff and Johnny Lee Miller there was another hottie on the scene, with hectic cheekbones and kinda lame hair. His name was Christian Slater, and he could act pretty well too. I adored him in Interview with a Vampire, I tolerated the garbage that was Bed of Roses, I was transfixed in Very Bad Things and captivated in Murder in the First. He … Read More »

Crazy little thing called love

I’ve been thinking about love lately, and how first love is just never the same as any other love you may experience after that. My first love was not easy – but as soon as I saw the boy (this being the f**ked up druggie ex) I think I fell for him on the spot. He was, and still is, one of the most beautiful boys I’ve ever known, with the bluest eyes, perfect cheekbones and long golden hair. He … Read More »

All Gym’d Out

Motivation: always good My muscles may not be that impressed, but I’m really enjoying being back at gym and being active again. I never really used to be too clued up on weight machines, but slowly I’m starting to find a good routine. Here are some interesting factoids I’ve discovered lately… 1. It takes 15 minutes to warm up, so weight training should ideally be done at the beginning of a work out rather then the end – as all … Read More »

Happy Car Day

Ta da! In the midst of all the drama over the last few weeks, something very awesome and exciting happened… I got my very first car. And today, all the paperwork and whatnot was sorted, and I could finally take ownership! It’s been quite a hectic journey, this driving thing. While most people start driving at 16 or 17, I only learned to drive properly early last year, at 28. And while most people got their driver’s license by 18 … Read More »

Things I Think About When I Think About Running

This evening I ran for the first time in weeks, and the first time alone in a long time. It was such a great feeling, such a simple joy but so easy to get out of the routine. I updated my iPod with a whole bunch of fresh tunes, and as it turns out Roxette is the best music to run to – awesome for a good steady pace, with just the right amount of cheese to put a bounce … Read More »

Happy Birthday Stevie Nicks

Everyone needs a theme song. A song that moves and inspires, through those tough times and the good times – a song that resonates somehow. For me it’s Landslide by Stevie Nicks. Without fail, this song brings a lump to my throat – the lyrics are so beautiful and Lindsey Buckingham on acoustic is faultless. This woman has the most beautiful, powerful voice, and has been a powerhouse from her early Fleetwood Mac days right up to recent days. Stevie … Read More »

How NOT To Eat A Pomegranate

Pomegranates: you’re doing it wrong So it turns out that eating pomegranates from the fruit is a pain in the ass, and not at all like eating say a grapefruit or a passion fruit. Of course I only discovered this after spending a few minutes trying to extract the gem-like goodness out of a halved pomegranate with a teaspoon, by which point I was splattered in red (stain-inducing) juice, but I guess now I know. So, here’s how you’re meant … Read More »
