Happy Birthday Elton John

Music legend Elton John turns 62 today, and while I’m sure Hollywood and assorted other shlebs are all getting trashed at his birthday party, I’m taking a moment to reflect on some of my favourite songs…

1. Your Song

Never fails to bring a lump to my throat – the lyrics and everything about this song is just so awesome and is one of the most heartfelt, beautiful love songs in the world. Too sweet!

2. Can You Feel The Love Tonight

Aaah, so many good memories from this song! This song is from one of my favourite movies ever… that still makes me cry every time! I don’t know how it is possible to be so enchanted by a friggin animated movie about talking lions, but every moment of this movie is magical after all these years. It also reminds me all too poignantly of high school slow dances… man I hope I get to slow dance with someone I like again one day – so special!

3. Ghetto Gospel ft. Tupac

Now this is what I’m talking about – Elton John and Tupac! As a major Tupac AND EJ fan, this song is one of my favourites. Stunning video too, what a classic!

4. Sacrifice

I play this to death, and have done so since I was about 13 or so. It has especially been significant during some of my more recent heartbreak, and remains one of my most favourite mope songs ever.

5. Daniel

We used to sing this in music class in Standard 5, which also happened to be there year I had a crush on a dude called (wait for it) Daniel. It was sweet and painful, and was the first indication of my obsession with mope music. I still love it.

Right, that’s my bandwidth splurge for the week – enjoy!

I would added Candle in the Wind too, but ran out of space, hehe. ;-)
