Sunny Sick Saturday

Wish I was here… sigh

Well it’s a beautiful Saturday in Cape Town, and I am sick. I finally took these defective glands on mine to a chemist, and the pharmacist says that my online diagnosis of mumps may well be correct, based on the symptoms. Those parotid glands below the ear, and the salivary glands by the jaw are quite a giveaway, apparently. As is the weird fever and general ughness that hasn’t progressed into any cold or similar.

It’s kind of funny actually, I’ve managed to avoid mumps for almost 29 years, and now I may have it when I’m at one of the most challenging and difficult stages of my adult life. One would almost think the universe is trying to shake my new found calm or something. Sorry for you though universe – I may be feeling shitty on the health front, but I’m still feeling good on the zen front where it counts!

My glands are so swollen and sore that eating is just not cool at all, and I can’t drink anything too cold as that causes my glands to do these spasm things that makes me pull hectic lemon face. Yogurt is kinda bearable, still not great. Water and hot things are seeing me through, and a warm microwave huggy on that part of my neck is bliss.

I have a bit of work and some important tasks to do over the weekend, otherwise I plan to rest in between. Clearly, my body needs some downtime and if I’m not feeling better on Monday then I’ll go to the doctor and get some antibiotics or something. Why knows, maybe it’s a strep throat or ear thing. Whatever the case, I can’t afford to be sick and rest in the week is not an option – especially not this next week, so it better be sorted by Monday.

In other news, Monday is payday and I’m really looking forward to this next week! Despite this gland issue, I’m feeling very glad about life in general. It’s a good feeling!

you’ve got me worried now because i’ve been battling with a sore throat com tonsillitis. and i’ve not had mumps either.

    nirvana!

    hope you feel better soon.

  5. Roxilla says:

The infectious / inncubation period is 2-3 weeks, so if it IS mumps going around, neither of us could have gotten it from each other.

I’m not even 100% certain it’s mumps, those glands are the biggest indicator but sometimes related things can cause similar symptoms.

Hope you feel better soon as well!

  6. Dolce says:

MUMPS? Dear lawd lady! I hope not! Hope you feel better soon darlin’.

  7. Louisa says:

Fists payday already – Whoohoo! Well done Rox. You made it in one piece. ;-)

Mumps?! Good grief, that’s about the only one I haven’t had yet. How painful is it on a scale of 1 to 10?

  8. Roxilla says:

Well the good news is that the glands seem to have gone a bit today, and starting to feel a bit more human.

It may not have been mumps – hard to tell really, but those parotid glands were hurting on a scale of 6-7 on a 1-10 scale. Tuesday – Thursday especially was agony to swallow or chew anything!

And @Louisa, I can’t believe I’ve made it to this point either. ;-)
