I’m busy reading the Ray Bradbury classic The Silver Locusts, which tells the tale of man’s first voyages to Mars.
As anyone who has read any Ray Bradbury will know, his books give science fiction an entirely new dimension. His beautiful writing style gives a huge emotive quality to his tales, and even for those who aren’t that into science fiction are able to enjoy his writing. It’s a fairly well-known fact that Stephen King is a huge Bradbury fan, with many of his small town short stories influenced by Bradbury’s style and story settings.
Since I discovered Murakami, I can count on one hand the number of books and writers who have managed to come close to holding my attention, but Ray Bradbury is a worthy contender and I am definitely going to pop down to my favourite secondhand book store on Long Street to stock up on some good vintage science fiction.
I am busy reading a Murakami book at the moment, thanks to your recommendation.
I also like Ray Bradbury, I am not into SF, but he is different and unusual and punchy.
Oh cool, which book are you reading?
I’m also a bit iffy on SF – I like some, find others a bit much. But Ray Bradbury just adds something extra, he has a great style.
The Martian Chronicles and Something Wicked This Way Comes are still two of my all time favourite SF stories to this day.
I love the Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451, been dying to get a copy of Something Wicked!
