Pink tool kits: awesome
I can’t believe it’s Boxing Day already, Christmas just flew past! I am off to Piketberg tomorrow, today I have a much-needed day at home to chill, pack, prepare my flat for my cousin who is house-sitting and do a million and one other things, but couldn’t resist a quick post.
Christmas this year was really great – one of the nicest in ages in fact. My sister came down from Piketberg and has been staying with me. On Christmas eve day we braved the madness of the CBD and missioned down to Adderly Street for some last minute shopping. A quick drink at Lola’s afterwards and we were ready to get home and wrap presents frantically, and then we went through to our uncle’s where the big family Christmas eve dinner was being held.
It was a bit different this year, as it was the first year in a long time with a very young child in attendance. My cousin’s beautiful 10 month old, Ethan, took center stage and we had a lot of fun watching him open his presents before we had dinner. The presents were all under the real-life pine tree, which was outside – so we had a real African outdoor Christmas, under a gazebo on the lawn, great fun. Ethan is obsessed with balls, and was totally stoked with the 100 ball set his god father got him, and even more so when he unwrapped the blow-up pool that my mom got him. As you can imagine, a 10 month old in a plastic pool surrounded by balls is one happy baby indeed!
While his mom put him to sleep, the rest of us ate, and had some bubbly. We then moved back outside to have the grown up present opening, which was so much fun in the dark by light of the Christmas lights! I got some really awesome presents, one of the best being a tool kit… with pink and black tools! Now I finally have a real screwdriver I can stop messing up my butter knives! There’s also a tape measure, cutter, pliers, box cutter and a few other goodies, really cool set indeed.
On Christmas day my sister and I lazed around the flat in the morning and watched bad Christmas movies on TV, then went through to our parents for tea and left-overs. Then we came home and lazed around again and watched more bad festive movies and had a bottle of bubbly, it was was great.
My sister is spending today and tonight at a friend’s place, and I have a fair bit of errands and whatnot to do today – looking forward to a bit of me time before the next phase!
I have just remembered that it’s Friday, really wish I could go out later but at this stage I am just too broke and will have an early start tomorrow to get up to the farm so probably going to have to chill tonight. Will have to see!
Anyway, this really is my last post of the year – I will be back in Cape Town sometime just after New Years, probably the 1st or 2nd.
Hope everyone has a good one, and be safe wherever you go!
Beautiful gift Rox!

@DT – I am already longing for things to bash with my new hammer, and I have not one but two screw drivers!
@Sam – boxing day is the day after Christmas. Here in South Africa it’s a holiday, not a huge one though – everyone just chills and eats leftovers. Hope you had a good festive season!
