Kelp viewing area at the Raddison
I should know by now that when you plan a quiet drink after work, you end up having nights of epic proportion. I had a slightly rocky start to my Friday evening by slipping on the cobbled pavements on my walk to Long Street, damn vintage shoes and their slippery soles! My knee is a bit buggered, bruised and swollen, but no blood luckily.
Anyway, so after a drink at Lola’s we headed across the road to Carnival Court. I love this place, had my birthday there this year and really enjoy the chilled balcony vibe. After a drink or two there, we went down to Neighbourhood for some dinner (falafel burgers = utter heaven by the way) and we would have ended the night there… but we were almost run over by a taxi bearing Blade and the American Toyboy. We were then marched right back upstairs to Neighbourhood, and after another round they managed to persuade us to go with them to The Assembly.

Rocking it at The Assembly
The Assembly was rocking, playing some really good electronica. We stayed there until about 4h30 or 5h00, and then decided that coffee was in order, and found some little all-night coffee shop in Sea Point, which had us in hysterics with their customer ‘no service’ buzzers at each table that was ignored by all staff. By this point, it was light outside and we wanted to see some of the sunrise. We ended up at Camps Bay beach, and after much fun splashing through icy puddles and climbing a big flat rock, and getting ourselves full of sand, we were getting hungry.
Next stop was the Raddison Hotel in Mouille Point, which we got to just before 7am. The breakfast buffet was a bit expensive, so we ordered coffee instead and sat down to enjoy a good few hours of sun, hilarious conversations… and kelp.
I had to meet family, so had to head home, wish I had been able to go on to the next leg of the mission, which included breakfast and Arnold’s, a stop at the Mount Nelson and swimming. Luckily the family outing didn’t take all day, and was home by lunchtime or just after and managed to get some sleep for the next round.

All Good in the Hood at Neighbourhood
The next round was Blade’s birthday party at Neighbourhood, and ended up being a great night. The American Toyboy got his cab to fetch me at 8h30ish, and we headed through. He then decided that a birthday party had to have cake, and after not getting much luck at Neighbourhood or Lola’s, we made a mission to Woolies and ended up with loads of cupcakes. Around the middle of the night, we decided to pop down to the Dubliner, which was awesome as always – I can’t get Copacabana and Abba out of my head, and doubt I will for the rest of the day.
By this point it was about 2ish, and after a very long Friday, we were fading fast. Found a taxi, and got dropped off – as soon as my head hit the pillow I was out. Had a really good sleep, and only got myself up at about 10h30.
Now I am feeling great, getting some work done and trying to rest my battered knee. I have a Nando’s date with 2 very special kids this afternoon, and perhaps dinner tonight… will have to wait and see, hehe.
I haven’t had a weekend like that in ages, and it has really got my zen levels up to a solid level. I feel great, and I’m ready for the week ahead. After the stressful weekend I had last week, this really was a lifesaver.
I hope everyone had a great one, catch you all on the flipside!
sounds like one to file under brilliant (quiet) weekend.
Haha, indeed. Hope you had a good one!
Awesome rox. So not much sleep then?
Not much, managed to sleep last night and woke up late – still feeling just a teeny bit dazed, but by tomorrow will be 1000% I rate!
two nights of envious 12 hour sleep.
although i wish somebody would tell my neighbours though that 4h30 sunday morning is no time to karaoke bob marley and the beatles – it’s just wrong.
almost came out to carnival court on friday but at 10, i was fast asleep – don’t get old roxanne – let that be a warning.
but my brother arrives from the states today so things should liven up. got to get down to the folks now for a bit now.
damn, I stay out until 02:00 and then I’m grumpy as hell! impressive to say the least then!
Sounds great Rox, glad to see you gave yourself some playtime.
I feel like a teenager, it’s crazy.
Last night was another unplanned night – which started at about 3h30pm, lol. Wasn’t such a late one, but my cats did not sleep at all last night and were driving me insane by jumping all over the flat and making a racket.
My knee is also really buggered, very inflamed and may be a bit sprained.
Oh well, overall it was one of the best weekends in years!
I have to agree! Awesome indeed! Thanks lovely lady!
No no, thank YOU, hehe.
Was a good one – looking forward to a catch up later!
