Thursday Reflection

Manateeees!!! I love these creatures, they’re just too cool for words

I was very inspired by a cool daily ‘summary’ that I saw over at Louisa today, which basically is a great way to reflect on the day and get into a good positive and self-aware mode.

So, here are my reflections for the day…

1. What did I learn?
A lot of interesting little tidbits, but what stood out for me is that I realised how little is being done for streetkids other than shelters. I have been trying to find out more about the juggling initiative, and what other projects and fun things there are for streetkids who have a home (bad as it may be) but need a safe and enriching place to go to as an alternative to drugs and glue.

2. What did I improve?
I got my ass into gear and went to class – it was one of the most intense we’ve had in a while, and I am bruised and already feeling the burn, but I pushed through it and feel pretty good and motivated again. Must remember to get some eucalyptus oil for these damn bruises, that stuff was always great to have around.

3. What did I enjoy?
Lots of things. Class, the chocolate I had at lunch, making Tiger run all around the bed trying to force me to pet him, having a classic FB chat with a buddy of mine, re-connecting with a cousin, some amazing National Geographic shots that Louisa sent me, endless cups of coffee, awesome apple and strawberry fruit salads… small highlights throughout the day that made it a nice and calm one.

4. What kind act did I do?
Nothing major, chatted to the security dude in the building opposite my flat, smiled at the local bergies on my corner, gave a friend some advice on her new kitten, called my gran for a chat.

All in all, a fairly normal, calm and productive day – just damn windy! There has been a lot of cop car sirens and noise the last few nights, but living near to one of the busiest roads in town tends to attract a bit of action like that so nothing too hectic.

I am really looking forward to the weekend, and tomorrow’s Fabulously Frivolous Friday is going to be very fabulous and frivolous indeed! Been working very hard lately, and it will be good to relax a bit and reward myself for all the stress of late.

Hope everyone has had a good day… catch you all on the flipside yo!

I love manatees too, I woul love to see one, such funny looking creatures.

Nice post, you sure achieve a lot in a day, I think my summary would be something like:

    did stuff.

I love manatees bigtime, they’re like sea elephants – too cool. Would LOVE to swim with them!

This is the weird part about freelancing, I find that I do more in one day working from home than I ever did in the office. Because your time is totally flexible, you suddenly have a lot more hours to do stuff, and the hours you dedicate to work are filled only with work.

I am more productive, basically. And somehow I seem to have more admin than I have ever had, it’s weird.

Will probably be working for another hour or so, or at least til 1am, but I had most of the morning occupied with grocery shopping, admin and other shit.

Sometimes I miss having set hours where you know you just have to go in, do what you have to do and leave again without having to deal with anything later. But then again, I find it almost impossible to work between 2 and 4 in the afternoon, and I hated having to sit there and battle to focus. Now at least I can do stuff.

It’s just like the dating vs. single issue actually… both worlds have their perks and crap parts.

    :-D
It’s a beautiful photo – imagine how close the photographer had to get to take it. That must have been quite a swim.

Your summary sounds great Rox…I like that you take the time to be friendly to all the people that cross your path.

  4. Roxilla says:

I love talking to people and connecting – in fact, to me, that is the whole point of networking. I don’t do it to get business cards, I do it because I find it fun.

And I was brought up to believe that people are people – regardless of whether they live in a box or a mansion. Too often in this crime-ridden country we’re wary of talking to people, but I find that being friendly is the best approach. Obviously if someone points a gun in my face or similar I tend to lose respect for them, but the bergies around here are harmless and don’t bother anyone – not even for money or food. They’re too drunk most of the time, lol, shame.

I like this summary idea a lot, may adapt it a bit to do a weekly one, for Thursdays. Thanks for the inspiration! :-)
