Cheetahs Gone Wild

December 3rd, 2008

Not this one, this is a well-behaved cheetah

I had a good laugh when I saw this story in the Cape Times about two young cheetahs who broke out of the van they were traveling in and went for a jol on the N2.

The cubs were from the Cheetah Outreach Project at Spier, and were on their way back from their check-up at the vet when they decided to make a break for it. Freaked out motorists, the cops and the SPCA all geared into action, and thankfully the Spier people found the cubs before the SPCA did… from the CEO of the SPCA’s comments about what ‘potentially dangerous animals’ they are I think those cheetahs may not have made it through their little adventure.

All’s well that ends well though, and the two naughty cheetah cubs were soon found chilling on the grassy area next to the highway and put back in their van and taken home, where I bet they’ve been grounded for a week with no tourists to play with.

One of the reasons it made me smile though was remembering Dolce’s post on seeing the Cheetah Outreach van in the traffic not too long ago… and what a ‘typical’ surreal thing is it in Cape Town to see stuff like this.

Would love to see pics of the daring escape, if anyone has any links or pics then send them along!

Kitties on the loose! Mwahaha, they must have had a ball with everyone chasing them.

    Hehehehe, I know!

Apparently they first found the one, then they heard the other one making the cheetah ‘chirping’ noises – and by all accounts they weren’t out to savage anyone, they just felt like a bit of adventure.

Imagine being there at the time, must have been something amazing to witness.

Good for them. I can just see the motorists faces!

Haha, panic and mayhem on the N2, gotta love it.
