Coty Fail

CK Fail

Well what a surprise… not. I got a reply from Coty about their animal testing policies and it was just as I had expected…

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding the use of animals in product safety testing. We at Coty Inc. share your respect for life, and we are committed to maintaining the highest possible standards of human safety while eliminating the need for testing on animals.

Coty Inc. does not conduct animal testing of any type. This is accomplished by selecting raw materials of the highest quality with well-established safety records and using extensive ingredient databases, in-vitro testing, computer modelling and studies with human volunteers. In fact, to ensure human safety all our products are clinically tested as needed on humans before they are sold in the marketplace.

There are rare occurrences when a government or regulatory agency indicates that an animal study is necessary in order to ensure consumer protection for a component of our products and where no validated alternative exists. In these cases, the need for testing is carefully examined by our suppliers and if the test must be performed, it is strictly controlled. Our research and development team has pioneered safety tests and alternative testing methods in order to eliminate the need for animal testing.

Dear Consumer Affairs Lady,

No no, thank YOU. Thank you for bothering to reply at all, although you may as well have saved yourself the effort because you didn’t actually answer my questions at all. Then again, you probably didn’t actually read my mail – you just got your ‘bunny hugger reply’ template out as soon as you saw the words ‘animal testing’.

Anyway, the jokes on you because I’m not going to buy any of your cosmetics or fragrances – whether those are Calvin Klein, Coty or any related brands under your stable.

If you really shared my respect for life you would know that not tested on animals means just that – NOT tested. Not ‘rare occurrences’, not ‘strictly controlled’ tests or ‘consumer protection’ bullshit… NO tests at all, by you or anyone you outsource.

Yours disgustedly,
A caring consumer

I didn’t really reply like that, in fact I haven’t bothered replying at all because I don’t think they give a damn. Still, now we know that Coty is a big fat liar and bunny torturer!

P.S. There’s a lesson to be learnt here kids, when in doubt – question everything! These people are obligated to reply to our queries, even if they try and bullshit their way out of the truth.

So they are liars then, What do you expect from a corporation that is driven by profits before anything else. These are the same people that tell women that their products will keep them younger (well looking anyway)

Factually if you did not coat your face with all the crap they supply it would probably suffer less damage. I know my wife looks 10 years younger than many of her peers because she does not believe the adverts promising perpetual youth.

I know, when money comes into things ethics usually go out the window.

I don’t buy (or buy into) any of that ‘age renewal’ kak either, I use a decent (non-tested) moisturiser twice a day (with sunblock in during the day) and that’s about it. Most of those products are super addictive and stop working as soon as you stop using them, and it’s a total rip off.

Still, I do like perfume and it’s hard to find fragrances that aren’t tested… and companies that are transparent enough or have any sort of ethics. There are a few though at least!
