Classic and cool… but not if it’s tested on bunnies!
One of the best perfumes I ever had was CK Escape. It used to be a powerful secret weapon, with men and women telling me how awesome I spelled, and it made me feel like a million bucks.
I got myself a gift set from Ascot Direct one year, which had the perfume, plus body lotion, body creme, body wash, talcum and a mini spray, and I still remember the day it arrived at work… I was in fragrance heaven!
Then I discovered that my favourite perfume was tested on animals, and the romance was over. Much as I loved that fragrance, I don’t think I will ever be able to wear it again until I am sure that it is no longer sprayed into rabbits, monkeys or beagles eyes. This isn’t a total pipe dream – CK was one of the first designers to stop the use of fur in his collections, so maybe he’ll get his shit together and find a cosmetics producer who doesn’t use animal labs.
In the meantime, let’s all wish Calvin Klein a happy 63rd birthday and enjoy these old skool Escape ads which I used to tear out of magazines and stick up on my wall. That dude was seriously hot!

Smokin’
P.S. I checked the latest Compassionate Shopping Guide to see if Escape is still on the ‘companies that do test’ shit list, but can’t find it on either the ‘do’ or ‘don’t’ list… it used to be under the Unilever stable, but now doesn’t seem to be… hmm. Will email Peta and see what the deal is!
i used to have those ads on all my school books..
sucks to hear that perfume was tested on animals.
boo to you Mr Calvin Klein. boo to you.
Hehehe, being a teenager in the 90′s rocked… good memories!
I am going to get hold of someone from the Peta blog soon to find out if it’s still tested – it was a few years back, but often designers/cosmetics peeps get with the programme and come right, so it may be ok now.
