Happy Birthday Gael Garcia Bernal

Um… what was I saying again? The utterly gorgeous and talented Gael Garcia Bernal celebrates his big three oh today, and I have no doubt in my mind that he will be another one of the ‘improves with age’ brigade. I could tell he was one to watch as soon as I saw him in Y tu mamá también. Diego Luna isn’t bad either, but it was Gael’s brooding looks and perfect bone structure that won him a firm place … Read More »

Mope Song of the Week – Tied

I couldn’t decide what was mopier, the 90′s Boys II Men classic Water Runs Dry, or The Cure’s Kyoto Song. This acoustic jamming session of Water Runs Dry is awesome – and as for this song… oh, what memories it brings back. Nothing like high school slow songs when it comes to mope music. Then on the darker, moodier side we have The Cure, with their morbid classic, Kyoto Song. I am a massive fan of The Cure, and I … Read More »

That’s more like it

It’s dry… Finally starting to feel a bit of chillax hit me, thanks to a great evening yesterday. The rain kinda messed up our intentions of drinking in the street at the Harfield Street Festival, so we went to Rascal’s instead to meet up with some friends. Rascal’s is such a great little pub – one of those traditional, dark and dingy proper pubs with a relaxed vibe and good music. We stayed for a few drinks and had a … Read More »

Office Issues

I have been working from home for 6 months in December, and my current office space is starting to get less than ideal. Today I moved my desk into a corner of the lounge, which is a lot better… but it’s still a small desk, and I am desperately in need of resources! I need a bigger flat, with a second bedroom for a study, and then I want a nice big desk with enough space for a printer. A … Read More »

Fabulously Frivolous Fridays

Lovely Lady Locks rocking the kitschness Today’s Frivolous Friday star is one of my favourites from back in the day. My cousin had Lady Lovely Locks and Prince Charming, I was so jealous! Lovely Locks came with little clip on pastel coloured plastic animals with long hair-like tails, we used to wear them in our hair, in Barbie’s hair, and wherever we could clip them. Anyway, 80′s nostalgia aside I am off to a reasonably good start today. I was … Read More »

I give up

Well, so much for letting loose and getting out tonight… have a press release to finish by tomorrow morning and that means no drinkie poos for moi. Much as I enjoy what I do, and am happy to be building up my little business, sometimes it feels like my life is spent in front of my laptop. The last few weeks especially have been crazy, and while I’m really enjoying the work, I guess I need to settle into a … Read More »

Another sizzler in the city bowl

Summertime and the living is easy I slept in a bit this morning and only got up at about 8h30. Every now and then I need to do this, but usually I am up by 7h30 – weekend or otherwise. I like being up early, I’m at my most productive before lunchtime so I like getting a head-start. Still, sleeping in has its perks when you’re a bit tired. So the sun is shining and aside from a few fluffy … Read More »

Mope Song of the Week

This Genesis classic never fails to bring a lump to my throat, and some painful thoughts to the surface. But nevertheless, it’s such an awesome song… and a timeless hit. And what better to follow that up than with the Diddy and R. Kelly classic Satisfy You. Love this song long time! I’m feeling a bit introspective tonight, and I blame SABC 3 and Etv collectively for not having anything decent on tv to distract me. That and the wine … Read More »

Heatwave Strikes Again

I walked through some jacaranda flowers like this earlier, too pretty for words Well, it’s Wednesday and the weather is sizzling. The first things that came into my head this morning when I woke up was that it was so hot I felt like I was in a sauna, and that praise the lord, I was feeling tons better. Then I dug out my fan from the linen cupboard and I felt even better still. It’s been a nice, calm … Read More »
