Power walking, jogging and running my way to the finish line

Race and license numbers, and a medal (w00t w00t)

We finished in about 1h34, and power walked, jogged and ran our way through Mouille Point, Waterfront and Greenpoint this morning, all in the name of burning calories (and charity of course!)…

This was the first GunRun I’ve been in, and I was really impressed at how well it was organised. From the ever-helpful, friendly and encouraging marshals, to the Kfm hits blasting at various points in the route, and the water sachets every half a km or so, to the awesome medals we got for finishing on time, it was a really great event and I’m psyched to do it next year. In fact, bugger that – I’m amped to do another race this year, but pick up the pace.

Let’s zoom in on the medal a bit shall we

Even without flooring it for the entire 10km, I am feeling pretty tender. Walking that fast is hell on the hips and butt, and the runs in between were felt too. I had sore feet as well, and even my back is a bit stiff. It didn’t help that the bloody noisy Italians or someone else in my flat decided to have a raucous party last night, which left me with few precious hours sleep and an early start today.

Oh well, I still feel super awesome and if I can walk tomorrow I may even attempt a morning jog. Or not.

    Nicely done!

1h34 is a lekka time for someone who’s starting out ;) This time next year, we’ll see you hitting 55mins!!!! (Or perhaps the half marathon? hehe)

I’m stoked that you enjoyed the race. I don’t think that the runners could have asked for a nicer day. Perfect running conditions.

I got your mail btw :) I’ll drop you a decent reply when i’m feeling less flu’y!!

Thanks hun, reckon next time we’ll take it a bit more seriously.

A friend of ours who was with us isn’t really a runner, so we opted for a combination vibe so keep us all happy – worked quite well (and damn but power walking works those butt muscles!).

It was a lovely day, have been out all day and haven’t really had a proper chill out, so will sleep well tonight!

Will chat soon, hope you feel better and that Monday brings some smiles. :-)

how cool’s that medal hey! how cool.

  4. Roxilla says:

It’s very cool, reckon I shall start a collection of them. :-)

I’m eying out the Constantia Valley Grape Run, it’s a half marathon though – so maybe a bit much at this point. Better to do another 10km and pick up the pace, then aim towards the half-marathons later.

  5. 302 says:

all well within your compass i’m sure just a little prep work required.

  6. Roxilla says:

Indeed – will save the Grape Run for later and work my way towards it.

In other news, my back muscles are totally buggered, but otherwise not feeling too bad from yesterday.

  7. 302 says:

my back muscles too and i never even ran 10 kms.

  8. Chris M says:

    Congratulations Rox!
