Closest I could get to the views from Camp Street
Well, my alarm went off at 7am and once I had scrambled around and finally realised the alarm was across the room where I had left it last night, I was forced to wake up. I had a dodgy ‘mind game’ session after I had fed the cats, and was trying to talk myself out of getting dressed and going for a run, when I remembered something I had read on Real Women’s Fitness (love this site long time by the way, extremely good health resource) about focusing on the feeling you have AFTER working out rather than the feeling you will have during.
With that, I dragged myself up and headed off with the motivation song of all motivation songs, the ultimate training song, Eye of the Tiger, playing. And man am I glad I got out there – it’s the perfect running weather, cool with bursts of sun and a bit of wind here and there. It felt really good to be running again, despite being a bit rusty and having to take short breathers once or twice. I didn’t quite make the hill sprint this time either, but there’s always next time I guess.
I’m very stoked at how easy it was (once I got over the iffy moments of not wanting to get off my ass) to wake up early and get stuff done. I was very, very tempted to have a cycle on my exercise bike instead of a run, but running really gives me a boost and gets the blood pumping and sweat flowing, plus it’s so awesome to get out into the fresh morning air and work my lungs.
I was home and having breakfast by 8am, and now have the rest of the day ahead and I am feeling pretty good. As it gets lighter, I will wake up a bit earlier – ideally in summer, I want to be out there by 7am or even a bit earlier to catch those very first rays and the last bits of beautiful Cape Town sunrise.

Ok.
Me too.
Tomorrow.
Eep.
Seriously hun, it’s hard to get from the blankets to the up stage – but once you’re up, it’s so worth it.
That alarm clock hiding trick really does work, I’m a big snoozer and will snooze for an hour or more usually before I get up, lol. So now I make sure it’s as hard as possible for me to do that, and today at least it worked.
i was up early – got dressed early – left for work early – unhappiness came rather early this morning.
i like my joggers in the evening.
Well, maybe try joggers in the morning and there will be more happiness?
good news always waits till noon and i like my sleep in the morning. still it would have mattered little this morning because i’m stuck in an 8h30-17h30 meeting, without a continental cushion.
I havent been able to wake up early for years! I wish I had the will power, but the extra push on the snooze button is just tooo heavenly!
Thanks for the links Rox- it is good to have a healthy focus!
That snooze is a tricky one indeed!
I will say though, not sure I would be able to go run early morning runs if I ever go back to full-time work – maybe if it’s a habit though, and at this point not sure when or if full-time is an option.
P.S Real Women’s Fitness is such a cool resource, lots and lots of cool healthy stuff there – been a fan for about 2 years now.
