Ok, so Cheapthrills tagged me in Phase 2 of the super cool Rocking the Daisies competition, and here’s how it works…
Do a post on one of these 3 aspects of the Rocking the Daisies jol:
1. The Rocking The Daisies Red Bull RADAR competition proudly brought to you by Speakerbox (go to www.speakerbox.co.za/radar for more info)
2. The fact that world renowned artist Eagle-Eye Cherry is playing at the festival at 8pm on Saturday, 4 October.
3. Take a guess what the first prize of this competition might be.
Then follow these steps:
* Tag a maximum of 3 people.
* Register on the competition page, login and add your post.
* Then tag your name, your post and the person that originally tagged you in their post.
* It’s now up to you to stalk, harass and threaten each and every one of them to tag you in return and in so doing you could score three bonus tags!
Well, at first I though I would blog about what I thought (hoped!) the prize would be, but Cheapthrills got that damn Eagle-Eye Cherry song stuck in my head, so I changed tactics and opted to write about some of my best ‘Save Tonight’ memories…
I cannot hear that song without instantly smelling the whiff of spilled Springbok shooters, beer, cigarette smoke and perfume… the odors that defined Springfield, aka ‘Cape Town’s greatest bar’.
Dancing on tables, falling off table, knocking back Redds and disgusting shooters, dancing on the big speakers, the total drunken mayhem that was the main dancefloor at midnight on a Manic Monday or the just as drunken shouted conversations at the main bar on a 2-for-1 Wednesday, good friends, being 19 and crazy, kissing cute boys (while dancing on the speaker), singing along to Eagle-Eye Cherry and Cher…
It was a song of our generation, when life was uncomplicated and fun, and we didn’t have steady jobs and liabilities, and standing in a hectic queue wasn’t such a big deal to get your party on, and being able to chug down a double set of ‘traffic light’ shooters got you instant street cred from the boys.
Every generation has an artist like that, and for the 20-somethings, I reckon Eagle-Eye Cherry is one of the best ‘icons’ for the generation that matured in the pre-millennium tension years.
We saved every night, and we sure fought that break of dawn, that’s for sure!
I shall tag the following bloggers:
1. Richard (because this is Cape Town news)
2. Riply (because he’s been a bit quiet lately)
3. Steven (because I always enjoy reading his blog)
Tag me as ‘Roxilla’ and make sure you get postin’ and taggin’ by 20th September – otherwise you miss the boat!
just added you to my blog roll…
you rock, dear roxilla!
btw – i also commented on your post on the comp website.
love it!
Hehe, thanks hun!
I have been in the offices that organise this epic event every year. A bunch of hippies. The lot of them. Having said that – a really nice handful of people!!
Clever concept!
Rox, damb it, you’re right – I have been quite. Tonight though, I’m adding an entirely new section to my blog. I call it: well, i’m not too sure what I’m going to call it – but it’s going to be sweet!
We still need to get a drink some time……
Hehe, with a name like ‘Rocking the Daisies’, not surprised the organisers lean towards hippyness.
Being something of a (lapsed at the moment) health and fitness devotee, I will be following your new section bigtime!
And ja, we must make a drink plan sometime.
