So, I managed to get away from dodge city for a large chunk of the weekend, and as usual, it was seriously awesome. I could feel my zen lifting the further we got to Picketburg, and the amazing flowers, clear blue skies, green green fields and various crows, cows and sheep along the way worked their usual chillax inducing magic.

Rocky, diverted from feet biting for a nanosecond
One of the biggest highlights of the trip was Rocky, the insanely cute but extremely naughty Alsatian-Lab puppy, who is not called The Terrorist for nothing. She is only 8 weeks or so, and they’ve only had her for a few days, so she’s quite a handful. She only has 3 modes: biting, eating and sleeping, and crashes around the house like an adorable, clumsy and chaotic whirlwind, biting anything she sees in her path.

Rocky causing some of the cats to take refuge in their super cool cat box
Saturday was gloriously hot, although the wind picked up pretty hectically after lunchtime. We managed to go for a walk, I almost slipped in the inevitable mud, and we saw loads of stunning wild flowers, cow patties, trees and of course Uber Ants…

They’re not called uber for nothing
The beef gate keeps the roaming beef from getting into the farm property, it also provides some pretty cool vibes. There are 2 signs, one saying ‘beware of the beef’ and the other saying ‘call first or faux coffee‘. There are also various skulls on the gate, and a customised Murg gumtree.

Too cool for school
The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent watching rock documentaries, Black Adder and When We Were Young episodes, and talking kak, and despite all the weird noises and sleeping in an unlocked room, I managed to sleep fairly well… and woke up super early to grey skies and drizzle.

Hectic clouds looming ominously ahead
Got back this afternoon, and while it was nice to get home and see my cats, I can’t help feeling a bit deflated at the thought of the week ahead and all the stress I left behind which sadly I had to come back to. All the same, it was so good to get away, and I really love being out in Picketburg – the people, the views, the menagerie… it’s always great, and being in such a crazy but awesome environment makes everything seem better.

Museum of warped things
Oh well, will hopefully making another day trip this month, so at least there’s that to look forward to!
and you missed the football.
now the weather’s here again.
and monday looms large.
could you hear that sigh, there it happened again.
And my cats are trashing my flat.
And there is no chocolate in the place.
And nothing on TV tonight (and work to do…)
SIGH.
I do however, have a new Murakami to read.
