I Hate Goodbyes

It was my last day of work today, as of now I have officially left the world of full-time employment. To be honest, excited as I am about things to come, I could help getting a bit of a lump in my throat… I was there a long time, and I will miss everyone. In other news, I have a hole just above my star tattoo on my collarbone. I was bitten by a spider, but instead of getting cool … Read More »

Obvliously Oblivious

Not quite on the same level as All Golds Sheesh I’m tired today. Last night I went through to Suburbia, having been causing trouble on Long for the last few weeks, we decided it was time for a change of scenery, so after a seriously lining of tummies at Home, we headed off to Oblivion. I hadn’t been there in years, not since moving townside, and while I generally loath going in Claremont side, it’s close enough to Kenilworth to … Read More »

Good News For Spanish Apes

Of all places, you’d think that the nation who gave us bullfighting would be one of the last places to put forward a groundbreaking legislation that gives great apes the same rights as humans, but there you have it. This movement could have a massive impact on animal rights, and makes me feel a little ray of hope at the state of our planet. Spain’s parliament voiced its support on Wednesday for the rights of great apes to life and … Read More »

A Man Apart: Hmmm…

Losing the plot, well what’s left of the plot anyway After such a dramatic performance last night, I was in need of some anti-kulture to balance the scales a bit, and lucky for me I got home just in time for A Man Apart. There are two things that made this movie worth watching til the end: 1. Vin Diesel rocking an extremely hot bearded look (after he falls apart and starts going befok) 2. The drug-sniffing chihuahua Otherwise, the … Read More »

Kulture Shocks

Last night I went to see the dance show Angel, which was an Afrika Ablaze production. The show was at an auditorium in Athlone, which was packed with about 500 or so people. Absolutely amazing production, the dancers were incredibly talented, and were all ages. It ended on a very hectic note though, just before the show someone snuck backstage and stole all the performers cellphones and the R14,000 that had been collected for the group’s bus that is taking … Read More »

Stress, Glorious Stress

I couldn’t even be arsed to find a picture to add to this post – I spent about 20 minutes trying to put my sleeper couch back together earlier and I’m just not up to any more challenges today. * As crunch time approaches, I am finding myself struck by hectic bolts of panic. Going freelance is not just the best way forward for me, right now it’s the ONLY way. I just can’t do the office thing anymore… I … Read More »

Vote Moon Bears Onto Asia’s Big 5 List!

[Jasper - VIA AAF] Some really awesome news today for a change – Asia Geographic have announced the creation of a Big 5 list for Asian wildlife. They have 3 animals already in place, for the life of me I can’t remember what these are, but the exciting thing is that there are 2 spots open, and we can vote them in. One of the animals on the list of ‘nominees’ is the Asiatic Black Bear, or Moon Bear as … Read More »

A hope and dream at the edge of the sky

There’s a highway of stars across the heavens The whispering song of the wind in the grass There’s the rolling thunder across the savanna A hope and dream at the edge of the sky And your life is a story like the wind Your life is a story like the wind Johnny Clegg & Savuka – Great Heart With all the fear, anger, disgust and doom floating around our beloved continent lately, sometimes I have to remind myself what makes … Read More »

Tastes Real Friggin’ Hectic…

… Like good shots should My sister was down for the weekend, and by Sunday I was feeling ok enough to brave the weird mist that had descended upon the city bowl, and head to Rafiki’s for some looooong overdue mid-afternoon balcony chillax. As per our proper balcony chillax tradition, we had to have a round of All Golds, so we called the waiter over and told him to bring us 2 shots of Cuevo Especial, 2 empty shot glasses … Read More »

Mid-Year Reflection Time

It’s been a funny day today. Weird to think that this time next Monday I will have just finished my very last day of full-time employment… weird but fucking awesome too of course. Anyway, I’ve been a bit pensive of late, thinking about goals and whatnot. I am not very pro goal, and in fact think that we are far too goal orientated and focus too much on the destination rather than the journey. Therefore, a lot of the plans … Read More »
