Today has been a very tense day for me personally as I get ready for my impending drivers test tomorrow morning, and battle the deadline I have while still staying sane enough to focus on work. But when I read about how bad the situation in Jozi is getting, I felt silly for my trivial problems.
The xenophobic attacks in Alex have reached a point where 22 people have been killed, and up to 10,000 displaced and terrified refuges are seeking safety in shelters across the city. While we all know that this city is too crowded and that the illegal immigrant issue is a major problem for legal residents who are also desperate for work and homes, this situation has rapidly turned into a nightmare. I can’t help wondering how many of these ‘aliens’ are Zimbabweans, or people from other countries in despair, and it saddens me to think how much intolerance and hatred we can feel for people who ‘don’t belong’.
There’s an amazing song by Gang of Instrumentals that really hit a cord today, the lyrics are so beautiful and apt…
It make no use to fight against your brother
It make no use to fight against your sister
It make no use to fight against your fellow neighbour
Love is the only way
Hlanganani ma Africa
(Africans’ unite)
Nibomoya munye
(be one spirit)
Nibonise ezinye izizwe
(show other nations)
Uthando nobumbano
(love and togetherness)
good luck with that darn road test! will keep my fingers and toes crossed.
Thanks man, am kakking but sure it will be fine!
once you get into it, i’m sure you’ll ace the thing,
you are after all rox in the city lets not forget that when your are owning those roads and bossin’ that test.
just keep the nerves in check as best you can, and then for some focused zen driving.
think big fuzzy dice
I reckon that if I make it through the yard test I’ll be sauteed, and will be hitting the rescue remedy pills beforehand to get myself zenned up.
Awesome post, Rox.
Thanks hun, I really feel sad by this thing… and it’s just getting worse. Makes me so sad and ashamed to be human sometimes, sjoe.
