Who would have thought…
Ok, I admit – I have been an utter sucker for anything proclaiming to be fat free or low kj for many, many years. I used to buy Shape, that meal replacement chocolate shake stuff by the bucket load when I was a teenager, and I have had a thing for fat free cottage cheese for over 10 years. This is not to say that I don’t eat full fat chocolate still, or that I don’t have an overt fondness for pizza, pesto, cheese or even chips. And I know how stupid it is to go all diety and then have a massive craving for Woolies organic dark chocolate with orange.
Still, that didn’t stop me from getting excited when I was in the biscuit section at Spar this morning trying to find something non-wheat for breakfast that didn’t involve much effort. I was scouring the shelves, pretty uninspired when happened to spot Weigh-less Chocolate Covered Rice Cakes. Picking them up and reading the label, I discovered that these babies have less than 200 kj and about 1 g of fat, which is fairly impressive for something that is covered in chocolate, I thought so anyway. Anyway, so the idea was to have 2 or so with my fruit and feel really sanctimonious. By the 4th one, I realised that this was not the case, the fucking things are super addictive and actually taste damn good! There are only 10 in the packet, smallish ones I might add, and I gave one to my boss. I managed to make them last at least through the day.
Who would have thought diet food could be such fun hey? And does it still count as diet food when you eat the whole lot in one day? Also, if they’re used in conjunction with say, wine and NAKED wraps, do they still count for something?
P.S. Most people develop food fads with cool, interesting things, and what do I get? Diet food addictions, sheesh!
She said whaaat?
