A lot has been happening in my life the last few weeks, and a lot is going to be happening still in the weeks to come. Somewhere over the seas though, something very, very appalling will be happening over the next few weeks… and that is the annual Canadian Seal Hunt.

In this hunt, hundreds of thousands of Harp seal pups, ranging in age from a few weeks old to a few months old, will be slaughtered for their skins that will be sold to designers and manufacturers to make real baby seal fur coats, trimmings and whatever else. I don’t need to go into detail about the usual ways seal pups are killed, but it’s not at all humane – and many are skinned while still alive, and then the sealers bugger off with their skins, leaving the dead bodies behind on the ice. ‘Hunt’ is a stupid and inaccurate word for this massacre actually, the seals can’t even move away, and just lie there looking all doe eyed.

Even if you don’t wear fur or support the fur trade, or you get uncomfortable reading about stuff like this – please just take a few minutes to sign Peta’s petition to send to the Canadian government.
