S.O.S Alert: Keep Corruption Out Of S.A

February 12th, 2008

Politics is usually something I try and avoid at all costs, and I have been a proud and positive South African for a long time. I hate hearing people moan about the state of things, I get downright uncomfortable when people use rude words to discuss the different races in our country, and I tune off when I hear people bang on about how much better everywhere else is. Even the power cuts don’t get to me as much as they do a lot of people.

But… and this is a massive J-Lo sized but… when the government makes a move to try and disband one of the country’s law keeping forces that keep things together, that makes me very, very worried and saddened. I love this country, and I can’t imagine being away from Africa, regardless of how fucked up she is. But if the ANC manage to get the Scorpions out, then we are just that much closer to going to Zimbabwe route.

The good news is that the DA are fighting this move with everything they have, and with enough of an outcry, both locally and internationally, it may not be as easy for them to try and disband the Scorpions. If you are South African, and you give even a bit of a shit about your country, take a minute to sign the petition to Save Our Scorpions.

Then, please share that link with everyone you know – put it on your Facebook profile, put it on a T-shirt, whatever. This is a damn important thing to all of us, and has to get out to as many people as possible. In this instance, spamming is good!

Go find a soapbox and shout it, people.

In addition, the very cool ‘Save our Scorpions’ header one of my staff designed for the viral was uploaded to at least one blog. This was then picked up by the Cape Argus who included it at the top of a story on Friday reporting on DA leader Helen Zille’s speech about the Scorpions at Wits University the previous evening.
