Faith Like Potatoes

November 21st, 2006

I went to see the new SA movie Faith Like Potatoes, I enjoyed the movie and was touched by it. I’d recommend it to everybody.

Faced with ever mounting challenges, hardships and personal turmoil, Angus quickly spirals down into a life consumed by anger, fear and destruction. Based on the inspiring true story by Angus Buchan the book was adapted for the big screen by Regardt van den Bergh and weaves together the moving life journey of a man who, like his potatoes, grows his faith, unseen until the harvest.

Frans Cronje, producer and owner of Global Creative Studios, is motivated to tell stories that inspire people and impact communities wherever they go.

A significant share of the profits from the movie will go towards Angus Buchan’s work, part of which is the Shalom Children’s Home, a charity established by Angus and Jill. The Children’s Home and many of the children who live there also feature in the film.

Frank Rautenbach plays the role of Angus, beautiful to look at and his dramatic acting impressed me, I felt the emotion, to me he was convincing. The scenery in the movie was breathtaking and beautifully filmed. The wife’s acting was not good, and the sound too soft at times. The overall purpose of the movie is to tell a story, to share and inspire.

Comment of a critic: “While the message of Christian love and tolerance is a beautiful one, hitting the audience over the head with it will just turn them away.” My view on this: Yes, it will hit you over the head, it is a true life story, and there is no subtle and diplomatic way to tell the truth. I think it’s great that this inspiring truly South-African story is told.

Keep an open mind, and go see it!
